How can nightmares manifest into a reality? The scratches are real. The red marks left on my throat are real. Aren’t they? And that voice …
Every single night I’m doing everything in my power to stay awake. All I want is one night of freedom from the nightmares that haunt me. They’re building into something. I can feel it. The problem is … I have no clue what.
I have a burning need to tell my best friends Phillip and Dylan of all my sleepless nights, but how can I explain that dark shadowy place between sleep and right before you wake? No one in their right mind will believe me. For now, I’ll need to keep it to myself. Pretend that I’m a normal average everyday senior in high school.
But, when they show up, my first instincts are to warn everyone. They’re far too perfect, and everyone is instantly awestruck. All but me, Pyper Hall. A siren of warnings is blaring in the back of my mind and I fear it has something to do with my nightly nightmares, and that place lurking right beyond the surface.
I have the sensation there is something out there hunting me. If I plan to ever find out any answers I must flip the scenario around so that I’m the huntress. Now, all I need to do is find out if this is some strange part of my imagination from lack of sleep, or if there really is something out there, and stop it —before it finds me.
